M&B Comprehensive Guide 31/July/2007  « on: May 03, 2007, 04:37:58 pm »

Here is a link to the printable version:

A while back I had the idea to write a comprehensive guide for M&B, but I got involved with other games and it was forgotten about for a time - which is a shame because it is already complete.

SPOILER WARNING

I proudly present to you:

**************************************************************************************************

The Comprehensive Mount & Blade Guide

* Zendar (Neutral):
Constable Hareck ~ Gives "Hunt Down River Pirates" quest, along with a Wooden Shield as advance pay. He pays 20 Denars for each group of River Pirates you help to defeat, and when you reach 100% completion, he will give you 100 Denars as a final bonus.

Go up the steps, turn right and walk across the rooftops. You should see it on the battlements straight ahead - use the roof to the left of the battlements to jump onto them.
Borcha ~ A prisoner at the castle. Count Mira will sell him into your custody (requires at least 1 point in Prisoner Management) for 50 denars - he tells you there is a 200 denar bounty on his head in Sargoth. If you accept, you will eventually have the option to set him free before you reach Sargoth - if you do so, he will join your party. His stats are modified by the class your character has chosen.

World Map Quest ~~~
* Escort Caravan ~ Escort caravan to (City). Reward: Proportionate to the distance to the city.

Siege Castles ~~~
* There are two conquerable castles in Calradia - Radoghir Castle and Culmarr Castle. To conquer a castle you must:
A: Have a large enough army. If your army is too small you will not have the option to attack.
B: Put up the siege ladders. You will probably lose a lot of men to the castle's archers during this phase.
C: Battle with your remaining forces to take the castle - this is just like a normal battle, except on the ramparts of the castle itself!
* If you win the battle, the castle is yours. Castles perform three functions:
1: You can station troops at the castle. Garrisoned troops do not cost a weekly wage, and heal as if they were at a tavern.
2: You can sleep at the castle. This is just like staying at a tavern, but costs no money. The only drawback is you can still be attacked by units on the map, unlike at a tavern.
3: You can inspect the castle. This is basically just the ability to walk around in your castle and see some of the garrisoned troops you have there.

Well, that looks like it's about everything. Let me know if you notice any discrepencies - I went over the entire game with a fine-tooth comb for this info though, so I'm pretty sure it's complete.

Game on! :D

EDITS ~
5/May/2007: Changed description of khergit arrows to include "+1 Ammunition" - merchant quests coming soon! Thanks to shikamaru 1993 and Seff for pointing out these were missing. Also changed description on the Large Bag modifier.
9/May/2007: Added my shiny new trade routes map! I also changed the descriptions of each merchant to follow form with the new map - they now list what to buy/sell at the merchant, rather than what the merchant buys/sells. Enjoy!
29/July/2007: Added merchant quest and siege castle descriptions, and troop advancement chart. Also added some formatting.
31/July/2007: Added a section on character classes. Updated Marnid's description. Added Main Trade Route.
1/August/2007: Changed location of Main Trade Route. Added World Map Quest. Added printable version for download.

I'm pretty sure you know this already, but there is a unofficial game guide already out. You could ask him if the two guides could merge.

Yes I have seen the other guide, which was one of the reasons I decided to make this one. The other one is out-of-date, too wordsome, and lacking in specific information. I wanted to make something brief and complete - more of a reference guide - and that is what I have here.

Sometime soon I will make a printable, full-color version with pictures and everything.

Yes I have seen the other guide, which was one of the reasons I decided to make this one. The other one is out-of-date, too wordsome, and lacking in specific information.

My document, which I believe is being referenced here, is a manual.  It's about how to play the game, not about how to find and win individual quests.  A properly written manual should discuss only game play, and never the game experience. That's what "strategy guides", hints, faqs, and forums are for.

And it's not exactly out of date. I wrote it for version 0.804.  Nothing that I know of changed gameplay-wise between 0.804 and 0.808, it was all bug fixing.  And 0.808 is the last version released.

Oh hey Momaw - terribly sorry I didn't mean for that to sound like a derogatory comment. Your guide definitely has its place, especially for new players, and especially since its the only real guide out there for learning the game. No offense meant.

I have designed my guide here as more of an "instant reference sheet" for those who already know how to play the game. Now, when you need to remember which city buys Linen for a good price, or who is the Governor of Halmar, you can find out at a glance.

* Thanks shikamaru 1993 for pointing out Khergit arrows also add 1 arrow to a quiver. Added.
* Thanks Seff for reminding me to get the merchant quests listed - I remember now that was where I had stopped last time I worked on this guide. They will be added soon.
* I will also add sections on storming the two castles.

this is a great guide.

One quick question - if the companion has Trade skill - does that help me in my trading? Or do I have to have my own trading skill to have effect?

This game has got me addicted - I have been playing for a week - and bought it already. Wonderful game.
